  Volkswagen of America has teamed up with KONG and VCA Charities to release a limited-edition VW KONG For a Cause dog toy, inspired by the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz. These exclusive toys will be available while supplies last, and for every toy sold, another will be donated to a local animal shelter.
While KONG is best known for its beloved dog toys, it actually shares a unique history with Volkswagen. The original KONG toy was born in the 1970s when auto mechanic Joe Markham saw his German Shepherd, Fritz, gnawing on a spare rubber axle stop from a Volkswagen Type 2 Bus. Wanting to offer his dog a safer alternative to rocks and sticks, Joe used the part as inspiration to create the first KONG toy.
This special initiative celebrates both National Puppy Day (March 23rd) and the debut of the ID. Buzz. The VW KONG For a Cause toy comes in the vehicle’s signature Cabana Blue and is available through vw.com and drivergear.vw.com, while supplies last.
