What's New For the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Compared to 2018 and 2019 Tiguan, the 2020 model packs a lot of extra features. All trim levels include such safety features as forward-collision alert with automatic braking and blind-spot monitoring system. The baseline S model also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, which was only available in the higher trims. Just a touch above the S trim, the SE level comes with a Black trim package that has 20-inch dark wheels, sunroof, and parking alert sensors. While Volkswagen has shortened its warranty from six years to 4 years, the 2020 model includes two years of complimentary maintenance.

What are the Tiguan Trims & Features?

There are five trim levels available for buyers: S, SE, SE-R Black Line, SEL, and SEL Premium Black Line. All these trims are equipped with an optional all-wheel-drive and powered by the same engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. Since the powertrain is similar in every class, the 2020 Tiguan is all about features.

The SE trim is a practical choice for buyers who would like to add heated seats along with a more extensive 8.0-inch infotainment system, keyless access, and leatherette seats. Jumping from SE to SEL will yield more features such as 18-inch-wheels, adaptive cruise, a panoramic sunroof, remote start, and power liftgate. The SEL package also adds a heated steering wheel, rearview mirror with auto-dimming capability, and rain-sensing wiper.

Anyone can make Tiguan a seven-seater by spending an additional $600. Tiguan is among very few vehicles that offer seven-seat capacity in the three-row configuration. If you have a large family, there are few vehicles in the market that can give you such an excellent price-value proposition. To make more space for third-row passengers, the second seat can be moved. The second seat will also fold in three sections instead of the traditional two sections in other vehicles.

Raw Power and Stellar Performance

2020 Volkswagen TiguanThe new VW is powered by 184-hp, 2.0-liter I-4 regular gas engine, which is the only option available in all trim levels. Buyers may add more power using the VW trademark 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. While the engine is not for sports buffs, it offers a smooth ride on highways and off-road. In most road tests, both the all-wheel-drive and the front-wheel-driver versions surpass the 30mpg mark. It means that VW Tiguan not only competes favorably in fuel economy, but it outperforms many of its rivals. To give more control to the driver, every Tiguan has multiple drive models. Depending on the taste, the driver can adjust steering heft, throttle sensitivity, and other features.

The 2020 VW Tiguan has a Long List of Safety Features

2020 Volkswagen TiguanThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has selected the car among its top safety picks. While it still awaits rating by NHTSA, the rating by Insurance Institute may foretell the NHTSA verdict. All trim levels include forward collision alert, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot warning system. The rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian warning are also featured in the standard package. In the previous 2019 model, most of these features were part of the optional $450 driver-assistance technology package.
